Infectious Diseases 

Positive Health Management is a confidential and culturally competent multi-services HIV program.  It is headed by the Chief of Infectious Diseases (hyperlink), Dr. John Vernaleo and administered by Gina Thompson, LCSW.  We have service locations at the main hospital in Brooklyn and in a satellite clinic in Jackson Heights, Queens.

If you are a PLWHA (Person Living with HIV/AIDS), Positive Health Management has a variety of innovative primary care programs that can meet your needs:

Medical Care

  • Funded by the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute
  • Providing comprehensive medical exams including CD4 (T-Cell) monitoring, Viral Load Testing and medication resistance screening
  • Medication Management and Treatment Adherence Support Services
  • Information and Recruitment for clinical trials
  • Referrals to other hospital clinic services (i.e. OB/GYN, Hepatitis C, Nutrition, etc.)

Mental Health

  • Funded by the Medical and Health Research Association (MHRA)
  • Staffed by mental health specialists in the fields of social work and psychiatry
  • Provides individual mental health screenings, mental health treatment and medication management, and group services

Substance Abuse

  • Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
  • Staff are accredited Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC)
  • Providing treatment and individual, family and group support services


Positive Health Management also provides HIV prevention services to our community:

Prevention

  • Funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and administered by the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute
  • Staffed by HIV prevention specialists and certified HIV test counselors
  • Providing Confidential HIV antibody testing, HIV prevention workshops/training and community outreach

 

Our primary care program accepts most health insurance plans.
HIV testing services are free for individuals who are uninsured.

All services are offered in Spanish.
