Rounds and Conferences

Teaching Rounds
Teaching rounds take place on all the General Medical floors, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and for 1.5 hours duration, led by the teaching attending assigned to the floor for that month. These rounds entail the presentation of a case in which history, physical examination, clinical data, pathophysiology, differential diagnosis, and management plan is discussed. Then bedside skills are taught.

Director’s Rounds
Division directors make subspeciality teaching rounds of 1.5 hour duration weekly on each general medical floor.

Noon Conferences
Noon conferences are held daily. Didactic sessions are on various topics covering different subspecialties and allied specialties. The curriculum for noon conference is designed to present a comprehensive syllabus of medicine in lecture format for the residents.

Grand Rounds
Medical Grand Rounds are held weekly on Tuesday, 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Faculty and Guest Speakers are invited to lecture on various important topics related to medicine.

Literature Review
Literature Review is an Evidence-Based conference where residents and faculty members discuss articles from the literature. It is held once a month.

Mortality and Morbidity Conference
It is held once a month. This conference is an educational and interactive conference for both residents and faculty members. The residents present an interesting case with biopsy and/or autopsy findings. Pathologist and Radiologist also participate in this conference.

Clinico-Pathologic Conference
One of the Faculty members presents an interesting case with broad differential diagnosis, and relevant discussion on the case.

Night Float Teaching Rounds
The night-float team has formal teaching rounds with a board-certified internist every evening. These rounds are of one hour duration and entail the presentation of a case and an appropriate bedside discussion.

Ambulatory Conferences
Daily ambulatory conferences are held in the clinics covering various topics related to outpatient medical management.

Interdisciplinary Rounds
Multidisciplinary rounds, take place on general medical ward, every week. These educational rounds enable the residents to interact with the nutritionists, social workers, and physical therapists. These rounds form an integral component for discharge planning learning experience for the residents.

Other Conferences
In addition to these conferences, Wyckoff Heights Medical Center also offers the following courses.

  • Interdisciplinary lecture series for all residency programs addressing topics such as medical ethics, community health, cultural diversity, bioethics, medicolegal issues.
  • Infectious disease course
  • Child abuse course
  • Tumor Board Meetings on every Thursday
  • Annual Geriatric Seminar
  • Board review courses conducted by division chiefs
  • ACLS and BCLS course for all new residents
