Prevention and Early Detection
Early diagnosis and intervention are key factors
to successful cancer treatment outcomes.
Through
our community outreach activities, the Division of Oncology encourages a
proactive approach to prevention and early detection. Free screenings are
offered throughout the year at both the Hospital and its satellite
clinics. Educational lectures are presented by specialized clinical
experts to increase disease awareness. Active participation by the
Hospital's medical, nursing and ancillary staff in local events such as the American Cancer Society Annual
Relay For Life demonstrates our support for the important work that is being
done throughout our community for cancer patients and their families.
Celebrating Survivorship
As improved therapies enable patients to live
free of cancer, the oncology physicians and nurses at Wyckoff Heights Medical
Center host an annual Celebrate Life barbecue for our cancer patients
and their families and friends. The entire Wyckoff community — hospital
employees, community physicians, local merchants — embraces this wonderful
event, donating time, food, and services in acknowledgment of the courage our
cancer patients have shown in their journey towards renewed health.
Research
The Division of Oncology
works closely with the Cytogenetics Lab, which operates under the direction
of Dr. Arvind Babu, to promote basic research into the nature, causes and
development of abnormal cell growth.
